Outdoor & UV Weathering
Labels that live outdoors face UV, rain and temperature cycling. We engineer prints that hold their color and structure.
The Challenge
Outdoor labels — on equipment, chemicals, pallets, planters and signage — sit in direct sunlight for years. UV radiation attacks both inks and base films, and the damage is cumulative: colors fade, films chalk and print becomes illegible long before the label physically fails.
The ask is usually simple to state and hard to deliver: keep it readable and intact for the life of the product.
Why Labels Fail
UV photons break the chemical bonds in pigments and dye systems. Poorly stabilized pigments fade fastest; resin systems oxidize and can chalk or yellow over time.
Thin or non-UV-stabilized films can themselves embrittle under prolonged exposure, and edge-lift accelerates as the film loses flexibility.
Material Solution
We build outdoor constructions from UV-stable ink systems and lightfast pigments, matched with weather-resistant film facestocks (typically heavier-gauge or UV-stabilized grades), and can add protective overlamination where extra life is needed.
Color-change targets are agreed with your team before sampling — we track color drift on aged samples against your target.
Process Control
Curing discipline is the quiet half of weather resistance: under-cured inks fail early no matter how good the pigment. We control cure on the line and keep color samples on file so repeat batches match the approved standard.
How We Verify
We run accelerated weathering comparisons on sample constructions and track color difference (ΔE) against your agreed target — commonly ΔE ≤ 3 after 500 h is achievable in accelerated testing; confirm the target and test method with our engineers before specification.
We do not claim certification results: final acceptance is agreed between you, us and, where relevant, your compliance partners.
