Small-Diameter & Curved Surfaces
Bottles, tubes and vials of 20 mm or less put label stiffness against adhesive conformability on every millimetre of the curve.
The Challenge
Small-diameter containers — serum vials, sample bottles, lipstick tubes, pen caps — demand a label that wraps tightly around a tight radius without bridging, wrinkling or lifting at the edges over time.
On a 20 mm or smaller diameter, the facestock must bend far more sharply than on a flat panel, and every material property is under a magnifying glass.
Why Labels Fail
Stiffness versus conformability is the core trade-off: if the facestock is too stiff it bridges the curve instead of following it, and the label stands proud or lifts at the wrap edge.
Adhesive behaviour sits on the other side of the same equation — the adhesive must flow enough to wet the curved surface, yet have enough internal strength (cohesion) not to creep or let the label slide.
On compound curves, wrinkles can form at the points where the geometry changes fastest, and stress relaxation over the first 24–72 hours is what separates a label that stays from one that slowly lifts.
Material Solution
We steer toward lower-grammage, flexible film facestocks that follow tight radii, paired with adhesives chosen for tack, cohesion and, where needed, a finer adhesive pattern to manage stiffness on very small parts.
The right combination depends on your container, its filling and storage conditions — we shortlist against your actual sample.
Process Control
Small parts are unforgiving of mis-registration. Die-cutting, matrix removal and liner release are tuned so the label dispenses cleanly at small size, and we coordinate application parameters — speed, pressure and wrap angle — with your line where possible.
How We Verify
Verification is physical: we apply trial labels to your actual containers, at your application conditions, and observe edge lift over 24–72 hours — the window in which stress relaxation does its damage.
Results are documented per sample; if your part runs on a specific applicator, a line trial can be arranged.
